Blessing of the Animals : Mass at 11:00 a.m. 10/6 12:30 Dismissal: 10/6 Book Log due: 10/13 English test: 10/10 This week: homework help until 3:15 NO homework help on Wed 10/4 Update 10/2: Please know that if your child says they do not have homework, that is not true. Students should be reading 20 minutes per night, studying their vocabulary cards in science, know the meaning of their spelling words, and studying their math facts. The studying could be 10 minutes at a time, but if they do this each night they will know them by test time. I have been giving timed tests in math: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and eventually division. They need to study and know these (without fingers) to be successful in math. Many of them cannot finish 20 basic problems in 45 seconds to a minute. It is crucial that they know their basic math facts. They are to read chapters, write a brief summary, and write a response to what they have read. The response should be longer than the summary. They need at least 20 entries. Explorers have been assigned. They should be looking for information on the internet at home, printing it, and bringing to school. They will work in their group putting their booklet together. I will post the actual dress up day soon. Volleyball games: away---Mon, Tues, Thurs---no homework help Mon 9/25 Religion: Kindness unit Math: Multiplication/division/addition/subtraction I'm finding these students are weak in their basic math facts: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. I will be beefing up assignments in this area. Please work with your child on math facts. Keep flash cards in the car and review them every day. They need to know them without using their fingers. Book report due: 9/15 State board due: 9/14 Next week (9/18-9/22) each student will give their oral presentation on their board. I will have them sign up for a particular day. If they want to bring food they may---but no extra credit. It is just for fun. I don't want them to stress over presentation---they point to each item and tell us what it is and why it is on the board. The handouts are given back to them to read to the class--i.e.--What's in a Name; State History; Physical Features I have away volleyball games on 9/13 and 9/14----so no homework help Community Service: Wed 9/13 morning: Park Merced/afternoon: Mission Gardens We will begin a unit on explorers mid week this week. At the end of the week I will assign groups to work together and research an explorer. Each person within the group will have specific duties. Information must be gathered at home (computer) or library (school or Merced County). All information needs to be brought to school---work will be done in the classroom--not at home. At the end of explorers unit---student will dress up as an explorer to deliver their findings to the queen (me).
