Dear Parents,
We had a great first week of school! We began reviewing our Superkid friends, beginning sounds, and letter formation! In writing, we worked on labeling pictures. In math, we practiced writing our numbers 1-10 in number and word form. I encourage you to review these skills at home with your child! We also spent a lot of our time last week talking about classroom procedures, school rules, personal goals, and how to be a good friend! This week your child will receive their first homework packet. I have included a recommended schedule, but homework can be completed in any order. I suggest reading the Backpack Page every night to help improve fluency! Please continue reading 15 minutes every night with your child. The fluency page can count towards the 15 minute nightly reading requirement. Memory words(found at the bottom of this post) are high-frequency words that children are taught to recognize by sight. These words are either phonetically irregular and can't be decoded, or they contain letter sounds that haven't been taught yet. Practicing memory words on a regular basis can help improve your child's reading! If any questions or concerns come up throughout the year, please feel free to contact me by email at [email protected].
