Hello Parents! Catholic Schools Week is upon us...there will be lots going on this week. A schedule of Catholic Schools Week activities went home in the family envelope, be sure to read through it. On Wednesday, February 6th in our school's auditorium there will be a Science Fair. On display will be our class science project that we have been working on. Hopefully you and your family will be able to attend.
This week in class: Reading: Chapter 20 in Superkids. Comprehension: what the characters motivations are; review cause and effect; story mapping; observing punctuation; and reading with expression. Phonics: Decoding and encoding long e with words ending -ey, -ie, and -ine; distinguishing between long a and long e; review adverbs; and conjunctions and, but, and or. Math: We will begin Chapter 12, Fractions. Social Studies: Our weekly is about United States Government. We will be discussing the branches of government Religion: Chapter 12, Prayers of the Faithful. Hello Parents! I hope everybody enjoyed the two week holiday. We just completed our first week back and it was good to see all those little faces again. I want to remind you that First Holy Communion is Saturday, May 4th at St. Patrick's Church. I know May seems far off but trust me it will be here before you know it. Information regarding this blessed event will be going home as the date approaches. ***Important Dates*** Monday, January 21 NO SCHOOL January 27-February 1 CATHOLIC SCHOOLS WEEK -the events for each day are on your school calendar. This week in class: Reading-we began our second Superkids reader this past week, The Superkids Take Off. This week we will read chapter 18. We will practice reading with expression, observing punctuation, reading dialogue with expression, comprehension, and we will review the main idea of a story, setting, and characters. Phonics-encoding and decoding short u vowel, making contractions with pronouns, suffix words, and review proper nouns. In writing we will be writing poetry. Last week we learned about alliteration..this week we will be writing rhyming couplets. Math-we will continue with our chapter on Money. Social Studies-this week in our California Studies Weekly the topic is Consequences. We will also continue to talk about Martin Luther King. Religion-we are learning about the Works of Mercy and the power of prayer.
