![]() The fall 2018 Scholastic book fair is here! Reading for pleasure unlocks the power of information and imagination and helps children discover who they are. Here's what you can do to help children develop stronger reading skills and a love for reading: 1. Set the example; Let children see you read. 2. Have a collection of books in you home. Update this collection routinely to keep up with changing tastes and reading skills. 3. Support our school's book fair. Allow your children to have help select their own books to read. Our Scholastic Book Fair is a reading event that brings the books kids want to read right into our school. Please make plans to visit our Book Fair at Our Lady of Mercy School Library and on line. Theme: Enchanted Forest: Let Your Imagination Grow! Visit the book fair Monday Through Friday (10/22 - 10/26). The hours are Monday - Thursday 8 AM - 4 PM; Friday 8 AM - 3 PM If you are unable to attend the Book Fair in person or you want to browse an expanded selection of books, we invite you to visit our online Book Fair at scholastic.com/fair. The online book fair begins Wednesday (10/17) and runs through Tuesday (10/30). Suzie Lorenzi's son, Lucca, is conducting a book drive to benefit Lucile Packard Children's Hospital-Stanford, as part of his Pack It Up For Packard Service Project. The story corner at the new hospital needs new books. Also, the hospital would like to send each patient home with a new book. Buy a book at the book fair and donate it. Not only does the hospital benefit, but so does OLM's library. All proceeds from the book fair go towards buying new books for the OLM library. There will be a wish list for the hospital at the book fair, or you can simply buy a book for your age group that you think a patient might enjoy. Wish list books will stock the hospital's story corner, and other books purchased will be given to patients to take home. Thank you for helping to pay it forward!
