Welcome to week four of the fourth quarter!!

This week:

Reading: We will be practicing all of the long vowel sounds and we will be trying to memorize long-vowel trickers. Trickers are words that do not follow the rules that we have learned for making a long vowel sound. I try to have the students try to figure this out on their own. For example, if they say a word using the short vowel sound...I repeat the word and they usually laugh or look puzzled. I then ask them if they have ever heard that word before. I then ask them to read it using the long vowel sound. If they cannot read it, I review the long vowel sound again.  These are the trickers that we will practice: April, apron, baby, bacon, crazy, even, female, fever, frozen, hotel, human, lady, lazy, music, open, over, paper, pilot, pony, robot, secret, shady, silent, spider, student, super, table, tiger, tiny, title, tulip, unit and zebra. You may also go over these words with your child for practice.

In addition to the trickers we will review words that end with iest, ier, ies and ied. We will also learn the contractions for: he is, she is, it is, I am, we are, you are, I will, he will, she will, we will, you will, and it will.

Spelling Words: This weeks words are: angry, angrier, angriest, sunny, sunnier, sunniest, cry, cries, cried and French fries.

Math: Picture Graphs, Bar Graphs and Tally Charts---This chapter also reviews less, fewer, least, more, greatest...we are continuing to practice our math facts...we have students that are confusing their addition and subtraction. I am focusing on them looking at the addition and subtraction signs...they want to rush and get it done.

Religion-How can we be more like Jesus? Be kind and help others.

Science-Types of Matter: Liquids, solids and gases...A solid keeps its shape without a container. Solids are able to change their shape. For example, a clay ball can be molded into a different shape.  A liquid can flow fast or slow. A gas takes up the shape of the container and sometimes cannot be seen.

Art-Easter Egg Craft

We are responsible for St. Vincent Lunches this Friday.

Have a great week,
Mrs. Scheurich

Thank you to all of the parents who came for student conferences...I enjoyed talking with all of you.

Reading- We are reading, "The Wish". We are working on pattern words with the ier and iest endings.  Since last week we worked on words the "y" ending, this week we are working on dropping the y and adding i plus the ending. This week we are only adding the "er" and the "est" ending to the "i".
For example, happy, happier, happiest. Beginning of next week...maybe end of this week...we will work on the es, ed...endings...for example, dry, dries, dried.

Spelling-Our spelling words this week are all memory words: their, now, always, because, been, down, too, work, many first.........as a bonus for reading the blog...these are next weeks words...if you would like to have a head start over the weekend...angry, angrier, angriest...sunny, sunnier, sunniest...cry, cries, cried...last word is French fries.

Math-Addition and Subtraction Facts to 20--Counting on from 10--Using doubles to add and doubles plus one...2+2=4...so 2+3=double 2 plus 1.

Religion-Lent

Science-Matter-Solids, Liquids and Gases----What can sink? What can float?

P.E.-We have been playing kickball---soon we will work on kicking a ball...not being pitched to...they have to drop the ball and kick it while the ball is still in the air.

Have a blessed week,
Mrs. Scheurich
