Hello First Grade Parents!!!
This week we are busy practicing for the May Crowning Mass. Every student in our class is involved with this mass. Readings to practice at home will be stapled to planners tomorrow (Tuesday) for those who are reading. We only have thirteen readers for this mass so not everyone will have a reading part. If your schedule permits please try to attend this mass because it is beautiful. Mass is on Friday at 8:15. On Friday we will also celebrate Grandparent's Day. All Grandparents are invited to attend. After mass they will visit the classrooms, the library, have their picture taken and have breakfast. Grandparents may take their grandchild with them afterwards since Friday is a minimum day. If grandparents do take their grandchild home they still need to get a pass from the office and bring it to me...thank you. Reading: We are reading "The Superkids Like Books!" and "The Case of the Mystery Monster". The sounds we are learning are the sounds that 'oo' can make. For example, oo in spooky and oo in book. Spelling Words: moon, spoon, room, broom, book, took, shook, hood, wood, stood Math: Reviewing addition with regrouping----starting subtraction without and with regrouping. We are still working on timed math---the students love being timed for their facts. Social Studies: Where is California? Hello 1st Grade Parents,
The school year is wrapping up quickly! Reading- We are reading "Summer Snow" and "That Was Yesterday". We are reviewing the 'ou' and 'ow' sound from last week. Last week those two sounds sounded like the 'ou' in ouch. This week we are adding in the long o sound for 'ow' as in the word snow. Spelling: low, blow, grow, slow, snow, warm, walk, once, give, done Math: Math is getting very exciting!! We have started two-digit addition. For example: 27 + 12 We start regrouping this week. Back when I was in elementary school regrouping was called borrowing. Please try to refer to borrowing as regrouping to your child. This is a very quick introduction to regrouping. We start double digit subtraction at the end of the week or beginning of next week. In addition to these we will also work on telling time to the hour and half past the hour. Religion-Practicing for May Crowning Mass on Friday, May 4th. Social Studies---Continents and Oceans---and---Where is California? Science---Solids, Liquids and Gases Art---Spring Art Please see me if you have any questions, Mrs. Scheurich P.S. Continue working on math facts---the students are doing great!!! |
