This week in first grade
Reading- Identify final ng words, Read "Golly Went Sniffing", "Super Scrub-a-matic", "Super-Duper Golly" Writing-Research Paper---Learning what research is....our paper is on Yaks. If we finish our research paper we will start writing opinions. Spelling- king, sing, thing, hang, bang, sang, long, song, hung, sung Math-We just finished Chapter 3-addition....test will go home this Friday. We are skipping Chapter 4 for now...Chapter 4 is subtraction and I want us to get more fluent with our addition before we start subtraction. Chapter 5 is Shapes and Patterns...I will send home info about chapter 5. Religion-We Give Praise to God Science-5 Senses Art-Fall Painting P.E.--We are still working on balance, following directions, step and throw, and catching. Have a great week!!! Mrs. Scheurich

Reading- "Ben's Shop" and "What Can You Get With a Nickel?" Review-itch words and words with "sh" and "ch" New Sounds-words with "wh" that make the /hw/ sound Spelling Words- where, what, why, when, which, who, cash, dash, crash, trash Writing-Question words-writing your own questions using our spelling words Math-Chapter 3- Ways to add, also learning that 4+2 = 2+4 Science-Test on Parts of a Plant---Starting 5 Senses Religion-What does God's word teach us? Gods word comes from the Bible Art-Pop Art P.E. Tossing and catching---learning to take a step when we toss Progress reports go home this Friday. Hunter Farms field trip October 24th. Cross Country practice started today...1st Grade will also practice on Friday this week...Practice is until 3:30. We are still working on words with the "ch" sound including those that we spell "tch". This week we have added words with the "sh" sound. We are also working on personal and possessive pronouns. Spelling Words: fish, wish, rush, brush, I, my, she, her, he, his The first four words are our pattern words and the last six words are memory words. The reason we have the word, I, on the spelling test is to get students in the habit of capitalizing I when it is by itself. Writing: Draw and write about something you did. Capitalize place names and edit sentences that have errors. Math: Chapter 3-We are learning different ways to add-Counting on, using a number line, and using touch points.
