Welcome back!!! I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving break! I had a great break and feel recharged and ready to finish off the 2nd quarter. Progress Reports went home on Friday the 16th, please write a comment back or see me after school if you have any questions. This week in 1st Grade: We are back to homework!! :) Reading: This week we are focusing on identifying short and long vowel sounds. We are adding in "Super e" at the end of words to learn that when there is a "Super e" at the end of a word the vowel will be long and say its name. For example, kit is a CVC word (consonant, vowel, consonant), but when we add a "Super e" to the end it is now kite, CVCe word (consonant, vowel, consonant, plus e). Our stories this week are: Ettabetta is Seven! and Toc's Chicken Pox Spelling Words: game, same, ride, side, said, only, you, out, of, here Writing: Informational Paragraph--writing about facts Math-Word problems with subtraction, -2, and starting to work with fact families Religion: Baptism is a wonderful gift Science: Animal classification book Social Studies: Rights and Responsibilities Art: Ladybug Art P.E.---Rhythmn Sticks We are responsible for St. Vincent lunches on Friday. I will send home a bag on Thursday. We are in the Christmas program. The program is on December 19th at St. Patrick's Church. Have a great week!!

This week in First Grade!!!
Reading- "When the Superkids Pretend" and "The Foolish Giant". This week we are working on maind idea and details. We are also starting long vowel sounds this week. Writing- Finishing our books about our field trip to Hunter Farms and a descriptive story. Spelling Words- go, no, so, be, he, me, she, we, hi, flu The rule we are focusing on is when a word only has one vowel and the vowel is at the end of the word it usually makes the long vowel sound. Math-Ways to Subtract, -1 Science-Classifying Animals Social Studies-American Symbols Art-Veterans Day Art and starting centerpieces for the Thanksgiving Program All Veterans are invited to attend our Veterans Day Program on Thursday at 8:30 in the auditorium. November 14th-Thanksgiving Program---Our class is NOT in the program---we are making the centerpieces for the tables. November 15th-Kindergarten and 1st Grade-Morning Thanksgiving snack together. We are the pilgrims and the Kindergartens are indians. +++Also Operation Christmas---2 toothbrushes and 2 dental flosses are due Thursday the 8th. ---Thanksgiving Donations---2 cans of Cranberry Sauce---due Tuesday the 13th. Homework is due on Thursday!! If you have any questions, please let me know. There will be no extended care this Thursday due to finishing the accreditation process.
