Hello First Grade Parents,

This week in class:

Reading: We are learning that when vowels are together the first vowel usually makes the long sound. I tell the students, " When two vowels go walking the first one does the talking. We are reading, "Lily's Little Boat" and "The Little Horse". 

Spelling: mail, tail, nail, rain, train, boat, coat, float, load, and road

Writing: Writing a letter

Math: Counting on from ten...a paper will go home on Friday explaining this chapter

Science: Animals-Making an Animal Booklet

Art:Snow Globe

"The Star" Field Trip tomorrow!!! Please bring your car seat.

Flour, sugar, or salt due December 19th for the Spirit of Christamas Dinner.

For our Christmas Party, we are going to decorate Gingerbread houses....if you can, please send your child in with candy to decorate with....It's going to be a messy good time!!! Mrs. Gutierrez, our lead room parent, is working on all the other details such as drinks and snacks. The party will be on December 22nd.

Hello First Grade Parents,

The students are getting very excited about going to the movies. Please turn in the permission slip and money now. Tickets are being bought for the exact amount of money we receive. I do not want to have First Graders in tears that day. 

Reading: Practicing long vowel words- learning that when we add the 'ed' or 'ing' endings to words with a silent e on the end we drop the e and then add the ending...for example- hike---hiking---hiked. I told the students that if they do not know the words with the ending...cover the ending and if the word has one vowel and one letter after the vowel before the ending the vowel is long.  This will take a lot of practice... Just be patient reading is a process that takes time.
The stories we are reading this week are: "A Helmet for Hot Rod" and "Race Day"

Writing-Practicing writing a friendly letter...also using First, Then, Next and Finally or Last when writing.

Spelling: baking, baked, smiling, smiled, oh, any, day, good, very, want

Math- Finishing subtraction and fact families---we will still be subtracting for homework.

Science-Animals-Different Kinds of Animals-Mammals, Fish, Reptiles, Amphibians, Birds

Art- Winter Globe
