Hello First Grade Parents:
A letter went home in the planner today about our class auction item. Mr. Yorba (Sadie's Dad) will be making a fire pit. Please send in your contribution so he may be reimbursed for his materials. Reading: Practicing long vowel words- learning that when we add the 'ed' or 'ing' endings to words with a silent e on the end we drop the e and then add the ending...for example- hike---hiking---hiked. I told the students that if they do not know the words with the ending...cover the ending and if the word has one vowel and one letter after the vowel before the ending the vowel is long. This will take a lot of practice... Just be patient reading is a process that takes time. The stories we are reading this week are: "A Helmet for Hot Rod" and "Race Day" Writing-Practicing writing a friendly letter...also using First, Then, Next and Finally or Last when writing. Spelling: baking, baked, smiling, smiled, oh, any, day, good, very, want Math- Finishing subtraction and fact families---we will still be subtracting for homework. Religion-Advent-Practicing for Christmas program----Wednesday the 19th at St. Patrick's Church Science- Butterflies---egg-larva-pupa Social Studies---Changing Communities Art---Christmas Ornament Art Have a great week!!!
