Hello First Grade Parents,
The students are getting very excited about going to the movies. Please turn in the permission slip and money now. Tickets are being bought for the exact amount of money we receive. I do not want to have First Graders in tears that day. Reading: Practicing long vowel words- learning that when we add the 'ed' or 'ing' endings to words with a silent e on the end we drop the e and then add the ending...for example- hike---hiking---hiked. I told the students that if they do not know the words with the ending...cover the ending and if the word has one vowel and one letter after the vowel before the ending the vowel is long. This will take a lot of practice... Just be patient reading is a process that takes time. The stories we are reading this week are: "A Helmet for Hot Rod" and "Race Day" Writing-Practicing writing a friendly letter...also using First, Then, Next and Finally or Last when writing. Spelling: baking, baked, smiling, smiled, oh, any, day, good, very, want Math- Finishing subtraction and fact families---we will still be subtracting for homework. Science-Animals-Different Kinds of Animals-Mammals, Fish, Reptiles, Amphibians, Birds Art- Winter Globe Have a great week!! Mrs. Scheurich
