, We had a great Catholic Schools Week!! I hope your child(children) said that they had a fun week.
This week in first grade: Reading: "My Happy Rainy Day" and "In Case of Rain" We are learning that y is sometimes a vowel. When a word ends in y and y is the only vowel, it stands for the long i sound. For example: by, my, try, cry. Also, y can stand for the long e sound. When a word ends in y and has another vowel that is not next to the y, then y stands for the long e sound. For example: happy, silly. When y is at the end of the word next to the vowel a, the y is silent and the a makes the long a sound. For example: play, clay, stay Spelling: by, fly, cry, try, belly, jelly, smelly, bunny, funny, sunny Writing: Explanatory Writing: how-to writing---Writing all the steps for doing something Math---Adding and Subtraction to 20, subtraction minus 9....next week we start timed tests back at addition---addition will be in the homework.
