Dear Families,
I hope the children have enjoyed their winter vacation! I am soooo ready to get back to school! I have been assessing the children so I can share the results during our Parent/Teacher conference. Unfortunately not many of you have signed up and since we are working as a team to make sure your child has a successful year, we need to get together. If there is no time that would work for you posted, please see me and we can schedule another time. You can e-mail me at [email protected] at any time if you can't reach me at school. We are in week #3 of our theme Animals Everywhere and this week we'll be working on Creepy, Crawly Insects! Hooray! My favorite subject...not! This is a favorite among the kids and I wouldn't want to deprive them of learning about bugs!!! Hopefully they won't be bringing any home in their pockets...real ones I mean! In our Second Step Social/Emotional curriculum we'll be learning about Fair Ways To Play. We'll concentrate on the letters N,n and V,v. Most importantly we'll be learning all about Lent. We will go to Mass on Ash Wednesday and as always everyone is welcome. I have been talking to the children about getting their ashes explaining that they are soft and not hot and that if someone sees you with your ashes they will know that you love Jesus! I would never want to make your child uncomfortable and if they choose not to get their ashes it is absolutely OK! We always have one or two a year that decides not to get them. Here is an overview of the upcoming week... Mon., Feb. 24th - Electives start - we usually have a student from the upper grades come in on Monday afternoons during electives to play games with the children. Tues., Feb 25th - Fat Tuesday/Mardi Gras - fun free dress Wed., Feb. 26th - Ash Wednesday Mass - 8:15 am in the auditorium - all are welcome What I did with my boys, when they were young, during Lent, was to have them do something kind instead of giving something up. It's all in the name of The Lord. God bless you all, Miss C.
