Dear Families,
This week we are off to a busy start on our second theme, My Five Senses. We have been exploring how we use our body parts to smell, touch, taste, hear and see. The children have been working with Mrs. Romero at a sensory table to use their hands to touch many different textured items. We have also been exploring our sea shells by using our eyes to see them through magnifying glasses and using our ears to hear the sounds inside the shells. We have also introduced our first Alpha Friend, Tiggy Tiger Tt. We are learning about writing the letter T, recognizing the letter T and the sound that letter T makes. I have made raspberry scented play dough and we have been using our hands to roll balls and then snakes to form the letter T. We are using our sense of smell to smell it. It smells really nice. We have been busy cheering 'friend of the day.' Each day one student is chosen to be friend of the day, and the class cheers their name. Then we all go to the table and I model each letter and the students write each letter in the name of the friend of the day. After writing the name, each student draws a picture of the friend of the day. By the time we get through the entire class, we will have had a lot of letter writing practice. Friend of the day books will be made and sent home. We will have reading buddies on Wednesday, and we will return to the school library on Thursday to visit Mrs. Poole. We are still working hard to learn and follow the 'Rules of the Jungle.' Nice hands, nice feet and nice mouth. We appreciate encouraging these rules at home so it is easier for them to remember while they are at school. This Sunday there will be an all school Mass at St. Patrick's Church. OLM students and staff will attend the 9:00am Mass and the OLM Choir will sing. This is a great way to unite our school family with our church family. We hope to see you there. The 6th grade families will also be hosting the OLM annual Pancake Breakfast. It will take place in the Church hall starting at 8am till noon. This fundraiser is to help raise funds for the 6th graders to attend Camp Calvin Crest. Please join in to see other OLM families, support our 6th graders and enjoy a delicious breakfast. Have a great week!! Mrs. Veronica and Mrs. Romero

Dear Families,
We had a great week last week. We learned about Mother Teresa and talked about being kind to others and being a Super Friend. We also turned our play house into a school and the children had the opportunity to play pretend school. This week we will have a short week due to the Holiday. We hope you enjoyed some nice family time over the 3 day weekend. This week we will be finishing up our theme Welcome to school. We will be talking more about shapes and will start cheering students names and writing them with Friend of the Day. We will also be learning about going to Mass and will attend this Thursday as a class in the auditorium as the school celebrates Mother Mary's Birthday. Just a reminder, if you have not already sent in an extra set of clothes for your child, please do so. When a situation occurs that a child needs to change, they feel more comfortable to have their own clothes to change into and we do not have a lot of extra clothes or may not have the right size for your child. If you are planning on working in the classroom in any way, please make sure that you have attended the Safe environment Training. The next class will be on Wednesday, September 7th at 6:00pm in the school auditorium. The OLM Foundation will be hosting the Wine and Cheese event on Saturday, September 10th. This is a really fun event and we encourage you to attend. We would like to wish you a wonderful week. Mrs. Veronica and Mrs. Romero |
