Dear Pre-K Families,
Thank you to all that made appointments for parent/teacher conferences. I really enjoyed sitting down with you. This week we will be doing some fun things for Halloween. We are doing some math and counting with '5 Little Pumpkins.' The children have been using the easel to paint pumpkins to add to our pumpkin patch. We will be going on a visit with our 6th grade science buddies to our school pumpkin patch to see how our pumpkins have grown and hopefully pick them. We will be doing some science and use our 5 senses to investigate as we turn our class pumpkin into a jack-o'-lantern. We will also combine religion with our pumpkin carving activity as we read The Pumpkin Gospel by Mary Manz Simon. This book will be on display in our classroom if you are interested in seeing it. On Wednesday, Oct 31st, we will have a special 'Pumpkin Patch' activity and treat. Please remember if your child attends school on Wednesday, the preschool children DO NOT wear Halloween costumes to school. On Thursday, if you child attends school, we will be attending school Mass at 8:15am in the Auditorium. We will be celebrating All Saints day. Our 8th graders will dress up like saints. Please have your child at school before 8am so they can use the restroom and be ready to walk down. Please have them wear their OLM t-shirt. The weather is getting a little colder, if your child brings a jacket or sweatshirt to school, please make sure that their name is in it. We have some jackets that have been found without names inside. Looking ahead to next week, the entire school will close promptly at 12:30 on Thursday November 8th. There will not be school on Friday November 9th or Monday November 12th. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. Thank you, Mrs. Veronica

We are beginning our 3rd week of Theme 3, My Community-Things That Move. We will be working on letter Hh. This week we will be working on learning about transportation. We will continue to work on counting syllables. We will also continue to learn about praying the Rosary. Thank you to those families that have received the Rosary bag and prayed at home as a family. We will continue to send the Rosary bag home until each family has had a chance. October is the month of the Rosary and we wanted to send home this opportunity for your family to be able to pray together. We have made rosaries in the classroom and the children are excited to learn about it. On Monday. I will make a chalk rosary around the back circle. Our class will color it in with our 5th grade reading buddies. This is a tradition that has been going on for the past 10 years. Several years after that, the entire school joined in and now prays around the Rosary together. The school will pray the rosary on Tuesday, October 16th. October is also Breast Cancer Awareness Month. On Monday, October 15th, our school will show our support by wearing pink. The Older kids will donate $1 to wear free dress and the proceeds will be donated to the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Tuesday, October 16th will be picture re-takes. If you child would like to have re-takes, please return the entire picture package. If you child was not here on picture day, they will take it on Tuesday. This past week, we had a-lot of fun with our apple orchard. October is the month of the rosary. We have been learning about praying the rosary. We have also began making our own rosary. This week, we will be sending home a bag with information on how your family can pray the rosary. We invite your family to pray the rosary and add any prayer intensions to our prayer book. Every night, a different child will bring home the bag. Please return it the next day so that another student can take it home the next day. On the 15th, we will make a chalk rosary on the ground in the back circle with our 5th grade reading buddies. On the 16th, the entire school will gather around it and pray the rosary together. On Friday, the school celebrated the feast of St. Frances. St. Frances is the patron saint for animals. Father blessed the animals after mass. We started to learn about St. Frances and will continue to learn about him this week. We have also started learning about fire safety and calling 911. We will have a visit from the fire department later in the month. We are in week 2 of our theme Our Community - People we meet. The Big Idea is The workers in my community help everyone. This week the children will learn about the role of the community in their lives and the importance of good citizenship. Our social emotional focus is on responsibility. We will be learning about the letter Gg. We have been talking about being responsibly at home and at school. Many of the children have shared how they are responsible at home and the chores that they do to help our their family. Please remember that their is no school on this Friday, October 12th. The entire school will be closed. Parent Teacher conferences are the week of Oct 22nd. Please sign up if you have not already. There are sign ups for the Halloween carnival posted.
