Update 10/2:  Please know that if your child says they do not have homework, that is not true.  Students should be reading 20 minutes per night, studying their vocabulary cards in science, know the meaning of their spelling words, and studying their math facts. The studying could be 10 minutes at a time, but if they do this each night they will know them by test time.

I have been giving timed tests in math:  addition, subtraction, multiplication, and eventually division.  They need to study and know these (without fingers) to be successful in math.  Many of them cannot finish 20 basic problems in 45 seconds to a minute.  It is crucial that they know their basic math facts.
