Immigrant Doll: I have sent home a paper doll--and the instructions to go with it. Your child needs to discuss with you their own family background. When did our relatives first come to America?
Why did they come? Where did they live when they first came here? Any information you can give is great. They are to find out about their father's side and mother's side and write it down to be turned in. Then... they choose which ethnic background they want their doll to represent---if they have more than one background. I am Irish and Swedish on my mother's side; and Scot-Irish, German, Welsh on my dad's side. I would then pick one of these--and dress my doll up in native dress. You can use fabric or construction paper to decorate the doll---they need to draw a face on the doll that resembles themself.
