See - ? of Day Below Good morning - I continue to pray it is good in each of your homes. God certainly blest us on Sunday with a beautiful day - maybe He is encouraging us to be hopeful and stay positive! Thank you for being patient with me during this online learning. I've had some of you express interest in learning from different sites - please feel free to do that also, especially as I think you may have more free time than you did in the past. Some of the Junior high teachers also thought this is a good time to improve some basic but necessary skills. I'm noticing that reading for meaning needs to improve, as does responding with well phrased sentences. If your parents are available, do use them as a resource. They are a wonderful source of knowledge, and can help clarify what you are reading. Let us remember to talk to God each morning and ask for guidance throughout our day and see if we HEAR God in our experiences. Let us continue to remember our Lenten Promises and pray for those who are in need of our attention and love. Please reread 3/25 for zoom behavior. 3/26: Well 8th grade we tried to have an interactive class - and because we have faith in goodness - we will try again. Check your emails this afternoon. 3/25: 8th graders - good morning! Thank you for reading this - and you MUST - read the ? of the day EVERY day. Many of you express confusion that other students don't share because they are reading information. I leave a weeks' previous days available for those who missed something. So check dates for current day. I also change font color or boldness to help you find it. Yesterday some of you had "zoom" classes and we discovered them to need some mutual understanding of technology and respect. 1. When joining a zoom meeting have paper, pen, pencil, scissors, and colored pencils available - your "desks" should be set up for work - you are in school. Plan to take notes and ask questions - this is the point of these meetings or else you can receive information in classroom and complete it. 2. Be in an area that is quiet! Every sound made changes the focus of the view and you do need to see the "classroom" board where instruction happens. I can mute your mic but then you cannot ask important questions and I can't check for comprehension. 3. Be respectful of other students speaking - again mics cut out other voices. Raising hands in a classroom is always important - or saying my name allows the mic to find you - if we take turns and pause for each other everyone can have the opportunity to ask questions. Background home sounds and music shut everyone down. Zoom minutes and class days are limited and this is you only opportunity to get real answers quickly. 4. Please understand that if you cannot manage zoom classes you will be excused from the class - class times are required but are for learning not visiting. Set up your own group chats if you need them. This is the advantage of our tech world that we've not had before - use it! 5. I hope all of you are learning and growing in some important ways right now - especially in gratitude for all the blessings around us: people, pets, comforts, and in patience with yourselves - this change can be frustrating - and patience with others. We are all on a learning curve. 3/24: Thank you all for understanding that much of the rest of this school year is on a day to day basis, and for checking the BLOG each day with that understanding. All of our decisions each day are affected by those in authority: God, our government leaders, our employers, our parents, and finally ourselves as to how we respond to all of the above. Much for us to think about each day as we make our daily plans and react to those "rules" in place. Starting the day with God sort of puts it all in perspective and makes it very livable. 3/23: Parents and students if you have important questions please email me. Review them and write if you need to make any adjustments. Then copy your Sunday Reading connections into your Faith Journal. Please try to watch news - there are many examples of Article 4 - federal vs. state decisions in our country - and examples of checks and balances - along with decisions about leadership. 3/23: Answer the questions on page 26 in Google Classroom, reread pages 24-26 if needed. Take photos of your 4 pieces of binder paper from Friday's work and send them to Classroom if you have not already done so. We will be using these in Lab on Tuesday and Wednesday. I will be inviting you to join a zoom class at 9:45-10:30 on those days. Finally list your 20 elements by atomic number, name, and chemical symbol from memory if possible - you can show me these on your lab day. 3/20: Using 4 pieces of binder paper folded into 8ths: 32 rectangles - in each rectangle VERY NEATLY PRINT the first 20 elements atomic number, chemical symbol, atomic mass (bottom number) so they look like the periodic table. Then in the other 12 rectangles print the name of the 12 groups on the periodic table - use Ch13 S2 to guide you. On the back of these 12 rectangles print the facts about the groups found in the tan boxes in Ch13 S2. See examples on Google Classroom. I am looking into ways for you to show me your work - maybe using "evidence." DO NOT CUT these apart today - we will be using them next week.
