Dear Pre-K families,

I apologize for last week's conflicting dates for picture day.  SCHOOL PICTURES WILL TAKE PLACE THIS WEEK, WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 29TH AND THURSDAY, AUGUST 30TH.  Please make sure that you turn in your order form if you would like to have pictures printed.

On Monday, September 3rd, the entire school will be closed to observe Labor Day.

Last week on Wednesday, we had a visit from our 5th grade reading buddies and we were able to walk down to the library to hear some stories from Mrs. Poole on Thursday.  This week we will visit our preschool Pumpkin Patch with our 6th grade science buddies and Mrs. Wennberg.

We will be in our last week of our Big Day theme Ready for School.   Our Big Ideas are working and playing with our friends and sharing and caring about others feelings.  We will be working on the letters Aa and Bb this week.  I hope you were all able to log in to the Big Day Family space.  If you have any questions, please contact me.  You can email me at veronica.jasso@olmlancer.com or call the preschool at 722-6657.

Thank you
Mrs. Veronica

Dear Pre-K families,

Thank you to all those who came to visit our classroom on Sunday during Open House.  It was so nice to see so many families. We took some really fun pictures.  We are in week 2 of our theme Ready for School.  This weeks BIG idea is...... I will make friends at school.  Children will continue to learn the expectations, routines, and behaviors of school.  Our social emotional focus will be on cooperation.  We also learned one way to be BIG in the classroom is to use the 3 step Ready, Set, Listen! Step 1-quiet mouth, step 2-quiet body step 3-eyes and ears on the teacher.  Please practice this at home.

Last week we learned about scissor safety and how to use our scissors.  Please practice with your children at home.  Some may need some hand strengthening.  A good idea is to clip clothes pins onto a hanger and have your child practice unclipping them and clipping them back on.

This week, we will learn to use our glue bottle.  Please make sure that your child has the Crayola Washable School Glue.  It is in the green and white bottle and it is available at Hobby Lobby or Michaels, you can use a coupon for a discount.  This glue is really the most helpful to your child.  It doesn't clog and cuts down on their frustration when they go to use it.  Please check your child's school supply box.  Some are too small and they are spilling over.

This week we will also begin signing in during the morning.  Our classroom opens at 7:45am.  Please have your student arrive by 7:50 so that they have time to practice their name writing.  Class will begin at 8:00am.  Please practice the 3 finger grip with your child at home.  It is explained on the handout that we provided on Meet the Teacher night.  If you need another, please let us know.  Please remind children that all letters start at the top.

Parents, please remember to sign your child in with a full signature every morning and at pick up time.  Please check your child's file box daily for information going home.  Mrs. Mary has put a blue folder with a questionnaire that needs to be filled out at home and sent back.  There is also a snack calendar if your family would like to sign up to provide a snack.

Next week on the 29th and 30th we will have picture day.  If your child attends on Wednesday, they will take their picture that day. If they do not attend on Wednesday, they will take it on Thursday.  Please remember to turn in the picture packet order form.

Have a blessed week,

Mrs. Veronica

Dear Pre-k families,
Welcome to week 2 of our new school year.  We worked really hard last week at learning our routines and rules of the classroom.  Please consider developing routines at home, this will help your child be ready for school each day.  Please also reinforce our school rules; nice hands, nice feet, nice mouth.

Each day our classroom opens at 7:45.  If your child arrives prior to that, they will need to be signed into room 10.  Upon arrival, please have your child use the bathroom and wash their hands before entering the classroom.     Please remember that for the consideration of other students, parents are not allowed to go into the student bathroom.  If you need to assist your child in the morning, you are welcome to use the staff/parent bathroom.  In the future, 7:45-8:00 is time that will be used to sign in and complete other morning activities.  Class will start promptly at 8:00am.

There is a snack calendar in our classroom.  If your family would like to provide snack, please sign up for the day you are able to.

This Wednesday, August 15th.  Our class will attend school Mass.  We will be celebrating the Assumption of Mary into heaven.  Please have your student arrive early, use the bathroom and be ready to go to the school auditorium.

Thank you to all the parents that have already sent back their child's poster.  We are hoping to get them all back by Wednesday, August 15th.  We would like to have them displayed for open house.  Open house will take place this Sunday, August 19th.  We look forward to sharing what the children have been up to this year.  There will be a BBQ and bake sale in the auditorium.

This week we will begin our new BIG DAY curriculum.  Our first theme is MY SCHOOL.  We will continue to focus on getting to know our school as well as expectations, routines, and behaviors of school and how to cooperate with each other.

If you have any question, please email me at veronica.jasso@olmlancers.com

Thank you

Dear Pre-k Families,

Welcome to Mrs. Veronica and Mrs. Hermosillo's pre-k class.  We are very excited and looking forward to getting to know our students and their families!  This will be my 11th year in this  pre-k classroom.  This year I am very excited to announce that we have a new curriculum.  I will share more about it next week.  There are many new and exciting components to it that will include the ability for you and your child to have access to online stories and other great information.  We will also be teaching your child a foreign language that you will be able to choose. There are so many fun things to look forward to this year and we feel blessed to be able to share them with you!

It was so nice to meet so many of you last week on Meet The Teacher Night.  I hope you enjoyed touring the classroom.  We handed out a few things that night and if you were not able to attend they will be inside your child's cubby.  If you have any questions, please email me at veronica.jasso@olmlancers.com

I have a teacher blog for our class and you can access it at olmlancers.com. Click on the three bars and click on For Current OLM Families.  Click on classroom and OLM blogs.  There you will find a bar that says Pre-k with Mrs. Veronica and Mrs. Hermosillo.  They are updated weekly.

Our first week of school we will be busy learning the rules and routines of the classrooms. Please do not send backpacks to school as they are not necessary for preschool, and unfortunately we do not have storage space for them. Your child will need a school supply box that is big enough for all the required supplies to fit inside and be easy for your child to get in and out of.  The small standard school box is too small.  It is very important to get the correct school glue for your child.  It is Crayola school glue.  It is available at Michael's and Hobby Lobby.  This glue does not get clogged and is very easy for the children to use.  The Elmer's twist up glue gets clogged and is very frustrating to the children.

Children that stay past 11:30 for lunch should bring a lunch.  We do have a microwave and can warm things up for them.  Please pack cool packs inside as we do not have storage inside the refrigerator for lunch bags.

On the first day of school it is best to share a hug and kiss with your child, say goodbye and leave the classroom.  We will begin at 8am and we will have a fun day!

Thank you for bringing your child to Our Lady of Mercy Preschool! We look forward to a super year!
