Dear Pre-K Parents,
Welcome back! I hope you and your family had a blessed Christmas. Happy New Year! May God bless us with a healthy new year as we put our faith in trusting that God has a plan for 2021. Thank you all so much for your kindness and generosity. I am truly blessed to have such wonderful families. I hope the new year finds your families in good health. Please remember that if your child is not feeling well, it is a better choice to keep them at home. As we jump right into the new year, we are starting off with three weeks of our theme, Seasons All Around. This is a very fun theme as we explore the 4 seasons with an emphasis on winter and weather. It is a fun time to explore ice, snow, thermometers, and hibernation. In handwriting, we will be working on curvy lines: Uu, Ss, Qq and Cc. In religion, we will explore the 2 greatest commandments: love God with all our hearts and loving others. Our class will also be focusing on beginning sounds and blending sounds to make words. In our social emotional curriculum, we will learn about managing our emotions. The 4th week, we will celebrate Catholic Schools’ Week and finish up our winter theme. Looking ahead, we will be closed on Monday, January 18th to celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. In February, we will be off the week of February 15th for President’s day and winter break. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to email me at veronica.jasso@olmlancers.com Thank you Mrs. Veronica

Dear Pre-k Parents,
We had a busy week getting back into the swing of things. We started off with a review of rules and routines, and jumped right into learning about Advent and the true meaning of Christmas. Our classroom is fully into the season. We have our Advent wreaths hung in the block area and we lit our first candle for hope. We have been busy making ornaments for our two Christmas trees in the dramatic play area. Our boxes have been updated with the Holy Family and some STEM building items to create a Nativity scene. We have also added a jingle bell box so we can explore with magnet fun. We reviewed letters Pp, Cc, Dd and Gg. We also had a visit from St. Nicolas on Friday; the children put out a stocking and were surprised when they found treats in them. We celebrate the feast of St. Nicolas on December 6th. This week, we celebrate the feast of the Immaculate Conception on Tuesday, December 8th. We will learn about St. Juan Diego and Our Lady of Guadalupe. We will celebrate the feast day of Our Lady of Guadalupe on December 11. This week we will light the 2nd candle on our Advent wreath that represents love. This week we will continue to review letters Mm, Nn, Oo, Qq, and Rr. We have one Birthday celebration this month and we will celebrate it on Thursday. I will be posting a sign up for our class Christmas party that will take place on Thursday, December 17th. We have decided to do a toy drive to help children in need. If you are able, please send in a new toy unwrapped for age 2-4 years old by Wednesday, December 16th. Reminders: -Mrs. Mary is doing a Scholastic Book order. Books are a great gift for the holiday. Orders are due by December 9th. For orders over $25, enter code READS for free shipping to your home. -Please remember to send in appropriate weather clothes for their extra change of clothes. -Please remember to send in a sweater or sweatshirt for inside the classroom. Please remember that we have to keep the windows open and fans circulating. -Please check with me to inventory their school supply box. We are going through the glue sticks very quickly as well as their dry erase markers. They are really enjoying their dry erase boards this year. School will close promptly at 12:30 on Friday, 12/18, for Christmas break. Classes will resume on Monday, January 4th. I know it has been difficult for some of our kiddos with their siblings on extended vacation. We have talked about it at school and we continue to be thankful for the ability to be able to remain in class. Please let me know if students will not be attending school or if you need homework. Thank you, Mrs. Veronica Dear Pre-k parents, I hope you all enjoyed a family day today. So many things are happening; it has become necessary for me to blog two times this week. There are a few things that we are doing and if you are able to help out, that would be great. -If you happen to read this today, on Wednesday, I asked the kiddos to bring in some leaves on Thursday 11/12 for another fun leaf project that we are going to do. -Please remember that if you are able to turn in your family picture page by Friday, I will be able to make another fun class book for the kids to share. -We are going to participate in the Operation Christmas Child ShoeBox project. Our class will be assembling 2 shoe boxes for children age 2-4 years old. Please see the family envelope for guidelines on things that are appropriate to donate. If you are able to donate a few items, that would be great. Please send items in with your child by Monday, 11/16. -We are also collecting food items for the Catholic Charities Thanksgiving food drive. We are asking preschoolers to donate 2 cans of corn or peas. -November 19th is picture retake day if you feel you need to have your child retake their school picture. Please let me know and please return the entire picture packet. -Please remember that Friday, 11/20 is a 12:30 dismissal day for preschool. There will not be any afternoon childcare. All preschool students will need to be picked up by 12:30. Preschool will resume on Monday, 11/30. -Please support our school's annual Deep Pit Turkey dinner. This year it is take-out style. Tickets are $15.00 each and the form is in the family envelope. Order forms are due by Monday, 11/16. Dinners may be picked up in the back of the school between 2:30 and 6:00pm on Friday, November 20th. Lastly, I know that the upcoming extended break for our K-8 students may be difficult for some families to manage child care and dropping off their preschoolers. Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns. I do teach an online zoom class everyday at 2:45. May God bless your families -Mrs. Veronica We are fully into our fall fun and learning about being thankful in preparation for Thanksgiving. We will also learn about Thanksgiving traditions and foods. We have been really busy making leaf rubbings and playing with our new fall harvest sensory boxes. On Friday, I introduced them to pumpkin spice play dough and we are using it to make turkeys with googly eyes and feathers. We also started painting pumpkins on the paint easel to add to our pumpkin patch. We will be reviewing Second Step social emotional concepts that we learned in units 1-6 as well as math patterns, syllables and rhyming.
Last week, we finished up with our ABC Boot Camp. We had such a fun time, and the kids had so much fun learning letters and sounds and making the silly hats. We will continue to review letters and sounds, and I will be doing an update assessment on their letter and sound knowledge. At the beginning of the year, we made a class book out of the All About Me page that each child brought in. It has become the class favorite and the children continue to be excited to get to read it on a daily basis. With that in mind, it is necessary to add in additional class books to keep them all happy. I have sent home a letter on information to make a family book. Please return your family page by Friday, November 13th so that I will be able to get it into their hands the week of Thanksgiving as it will be a great time to talk about our families. I am also having them make a fun fall book in class. This upcoming Wednesday, November 11, there will not be school. We will observe Veteran's day and take the day off. School will resume on Thursday, November 12th. Next Friday, November 20, we will close preschool promptly at 12:30 for Thanksgiving break. There will not be any afternoon classes on that day; all preschool students will need to be picked up by 12:30. We will be off the entire week of November 23rd and preschool will resume on Monday, November 30th. Preschool will be in regular session during the Month of December. We will be in session for 3 weeks and break for the Christmas holiday on Friday, December 18th. Preschool will resume on Monday, January 4th. I know this is conflicting with the schedule from Kinder-8th, and will make it different if you have an older child that attends there. We are grateful to be able to continue teaching your children during this time. I have been so blessed to become a part of their life and they bring such joy to me everyday. Have a blessed week, Mrs. Veronica Dear Pre-K parents,
We had a really fun time this past week. Please remember to log into Seesaw to see all the fun pictures. They have been having so much fun playing with their spooky boxes. We concluded our theme, My Community, learning about taking care of our community by learning to reduce, reuse, and recycle. We talked about making something out of something else. On Friday, we made Forkys and since the kiddos are all big fans of him, this was really exciting for them. They will take some time to dry so they won’t be ready to travel home for a few days. During this theme, we learned about community helpers and the grand finale was a special visit from Deputy Garcia and his canine Renzo. We were so grateful to be able to do a socially distant visit and see his fancy car. The kids really enjoyed the lights and sirens. A big thank you to Jonah and his family for providing the kids with a special treat. Thank you to all who supported our school drive thru dinner on Friday; the food was so delicious and a great way to support our school. Please remember that this Friday, October 30th, the school will host a drive thru Halloween in the back circle. It’s only $10 per car and another great way to support our school during these difficult times. Picture day for preschool will be on Wednesday, October 28th. Please send in your picture envelope before that day. This week will be a review week for us. We will continue with our ABC bootcamp and learning letters and sounds. We will start out the week with letter T. The kids have such a fun time guessing each day what the silly hat will be. They really are doing a great job and learning to cut better each day. I have a lot of fun Halloween inspired activities planned for the kids this week so it should be a fun time. Please remember that we will not be having a Halloween party in class this year, but we will have two fun days of special snacks. Thank you to all that have signed up to bring something. If you would like to bring a bag of packaged candy or a treat to share with the class, please send it in before Wednesday, October 28th so we can add it to the treat bags. Some children do not attend on Friday, so we will be sending bags home on Thursday. Please remember that in preschool, we do not wear costumes to school. Please remember to send in a jacket for your child to wear as it is getting a little cooler. Also, please remember to apply mosquito repellent before your child gets to school. Looking ahead, the preschool will be closed on Wednesday, November 11 to observe Veterans day. Thank you, Mrs. Veronica Dear Pre-k families, This week we are in the 3rd week of our theme, My Community. We are learning about people we meet. We will be talking about community helpers that serve in our community like: police officers, firefighters, doctors, mail carriers, etc. We will be making thank you pictures to send out to our community to thank them. We will also be learning about fire safety, and learning how to stop, drop and roll. We will talk about calling 911 in an emergency and having a family plan and meeting place as well as knowing your home address. We will continue with learning letters and sounds of letters Kk - Nn. The children have been making silly hats each day and are really enjoying them. Our nursery rhyme this week is Jack Be Nimble. In our social emotional curriculum, we are learning about when people have the same or different feelings about something. In math, we will be learning about shorter/longer. We will continue learning about the rosary and the prayers of the rosary. This week we are focusing on the Hail Mary prayer. Looking ahead to Halloween, we will celebrate with two special snack days. One will be on Thursday, 10/29 and the other will be on Friday, 10/30. I will post a snack sign up list for both days. Each child will make a small trick-or-treat bag and if you would like to send in a small store bought treat for them to share, that would be okay. Treats are optional. We have 11 students in our class and treats would need to be sent in the week of October 26th. All treats to be shared will need to be sent in by Thursday, 10/29 as some children do not attend on Friday. Please remember that costumes are not to be worn to preschool. If you have any questions, please email me at veronica.jasso@olmlancers.com Thank you, Mrs. Veronica Dear Pre-K Parents,
We are in the final week of our theme My Family. This week we conclude with All Kinds of Families. We will also continue to talk about healthy foods and eating everyday foods vs sometimes foods. We will also be doing apple tasting, exploring apples and learning about My Five Senses. We will continue clapping syllables and our nursery rhyme, Hickory Dickory Dock. In handwriting, we continue with pre-writing skills as we make diagonal lines. In science, we will explore how we sort objects. In our social emotional curriculum, we are exploring feelings. We have made some changes inside the classroom as our dramatic play center has transformed into an apple orchard. As we prepare to learn about St. Francis next week, we would like to make a poster of our family pets. Please send in a photo of your pet so we can add it to our pet poster. In preparation for progress reports next month, I would like to remind you to please complete your ASQ questionnaire that was in the blue folder. We will continue to pray for firefighters and those that have been affected by the fires. We will also continue to pray for Mrs. Blackburn and Mrs. Mary, as well as all the teachers and students on the other side of the school as they welcome back students in kindergarten through 6th grade. We wish them an easy transition back to class. I know that many of our students have older siblings that are coming back. Please be conscientious of the 2:30 pick up time as I teach an online zoom class after that pick-up time, so it may be necessary to pick up your preschool child first so that you are prepared to pick up students from the other side at 2:30. I am not exactly sure how pick up is going to work on the other side, but I think it is only a drive thru pick up. We will celebrate our three September birthdays on Wednesday, September 30th. If your child has a September birthday and you would like to bring something, I will have a birthday sign up out on the table. Thank you, Mrs. Veronica Dear Pre-K Families, This week, we continue with our My Family theme as we explore family fun. We will be discussing how families celebrate together. We will also talk about the holy family and how we can be like them by being kind and helpful. In math, we will work on counting to 5 with bear counters. In science, we will talk about different states of water in ice and gas forms. We will be using Hickory Dickory Dock for rhyming. We will also continue to clap syllables. For handwriting, we will explore curve lines. In our social emotional curriculum, we will learn about asking for what you need/want. As we continue to see the air quality as very unhealthy, we will need to stay inside with the windows closed. We will have the fans and air conditioning running in order to keep the air circulating inside the classroom. We are seeing an increase in allergy symptoms due to all the smoke in the air. Please continue to monitor your child’s health and if they are feeling sick, please keep them at home. Also, please remember that if your child has experienced fever, they should remain home until they have been fever free without medication for 24 hours. Please send in a sweater if your child feels cold from the circulation of air. We continue to remain vigilant in our cleaning and hand washing as to keep germs away. Please remember to complete your blue folder with the ASQ questionnaire and send it in. I seem to be missing quite a few. We continue to pray for those that are sick, firefighters and those that have been displaced by the fires. May God Bless us all. Thank you, Mrs. Veronica Dear Pre-K Families,
I hope everyone has had a wonderful weekend and enjoyed the extra family time. This week, we begin week 2 of our My Family theme. We will focus on Taking Care of Each Other as we read books about being a helper and working together within our families. We will continue learning about straight lines as we write lines in shapes. In math, we will measure lengths with snap cubes. In science, we will learn about healthy foods with everyday foods vs sometimes foods. We will also continue learning about syllables. In our social emotional curriculum, we will learn about following directions. Thank you to all that were able to send in clorox wipes last week; we really appreciate it. As you are out and about, please think of us if you see lysol spray for down the road. We are doing our best to keep things as clean as possible. Thank you to those who turned in the blue asq folder and the All About Me page. If you have not had a chance to turn them in please bring them in as soon as you are able to complete them. We are doing show and tell with their page, and they have an opportunity to stand in front of the class and talk about their page before I put our class book together. Also, please try to arrive before 8am so that your child has enough time to practice writing their name when we sign in. In an effort to keep the air circulating in the classroom, I am running a few fans. It is also sometimes a bit chilly in the morning when we go outside for story and music/movement. Please send a light sweater with your child in the morning. We will be celebrating Mother Mary’s birthday on Tuesday with a special snack. Birthday celebrations for the month of September will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 30th. All children that have birthdays in the month of September will be celebrated that day. I will put up a special snack request list later in the month. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me at veronica.jasso@olmlancers.com. |
